DRESS FOR THE JOB YOU WANT

I believe that just as music, environment, or smells can change your mood, so to can clothing. If you think about it, sweatpants can give you a feeling of sleepiness maybe some laziness, or snuggling up with your favorite blanket and watching Twilight for the millionth time. But a little black dress can make you feel sexy, beautiful, ready to have fun.

I believe either one comes with a level of effort. Sometimes we’re willing to make a little more effort and sometimes not so much. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t believe there is anything wrong or right with either one. It’s all about how we feel. I for one can relate more to putting in as little effort as possible when it comes to my own clothing. Most days you’ll find me working behind the computer, meeting virtually, or on the phone, so why put time into something no one else will really see? I think for me anyway, I correlate getting ready as a way to impress others.

“Dress for the job you want.”

This has to be one of my favorite lines from the movie Picture Perfect with Jennifer Aniston. It has stuck with me all of these years, I think especially because I was about the embark into the world around the time this movie came out.

And yet, I admittingly have never figured out what job I wanted, so therefore could never figure out what to wear. And there are times I still struggle with what to wear. This is where mood can really come in. Because even if you’re still unsure, your feelings can at least guide you part of the way. Are you feeling like t-shirts and jeans are just the easiest right now? Or maybe you’re feeling a little bloated and those loose joggers are the best you can do. But what if you opted for those printed skinny pants instead? How would that make you feel?

Just as switching the playlist or putting on a different movie can change your mood, so too can your outfit. I challenge you to go for the unexpected next time you’re feeling a little unsure. Go in with the intention of positive vibes and I bet it changes your day for the better.
